Welcome to Class 56. Our class teacher is Mr Barker.
Children are taught as a class for all subjects except for Numeracy when we might be taught by Miss Smith, Mr Barker, Mrs Crowley or Mrs Johnson.
C5/6 is taught French by Mr Whitehead and Music by Mrs Burch.
This term children will learn all about the ancient Maya civilisation, including who the ancient Maya people were and where and when they lived and the types of food eaten. They will also use maps and atlases to locate Maya cities and identify countries in Mesoamerica. In addition to this they will learn about the religious beliefs and rituals of the ancient Maya people and find out more about some of the many gods they worshipped. They will learn about the Maya writing system and practise writing words using logograms and syllabograms in the hieroglyphic style of the ancient Maya people. Children will have the opportunity to recount the event as a Mayan.
Our Science topic this term is called “Body Pump”, where children will learn about the human circulatory system and how it enables their bodies to function. They find out about the main parts of the circulatory system: the heart, blood vessels (arteries, veins and capillaries) and blood, and how these work together to deliver oxygen and nutrients to every part of the body. They will also learn about how the heart works, the main components of blood and the function of the different types of blood vessels. They will also discover how water is transported through the body and develop their understanding of the importance of water to human health.
