At Roundwood Primary, we recognise that all children learn at different rates and in order for teachers to best match their teaching to the children’s needs, a continual process of assessment is carried out in order to ensure your child’s next steps are planned for.
On entry to our school, in Nursery and Reception, pupils will undergo a ‘baseline assessment’ which informs practitioners of where each child is on their learning journey so appropriate experiences can be put in place for them to build on their knowledge, skills and understanding.
As children move through the school, informal assessment takes place continually in a variety of different ways such as questioning, verbal feedback and by looking at pupils’ work. In addition to these regular formative and summative assessments that take place to inform teachers day to day planning, Year 1 pupils take part in the Government’s Phonics Screening Check and Year 2 and Year 6 pupils take part in SATs assessments. From the summer term of 2020, Year 4 pupils will also take part in the governments Times Tables check. Parent workshops are run to inform parents of the procedures involved in these arrangements and results of formal testing are shared with parents.
