Allergies and Special Dietary Requirements

At Roundwood Primary School, we take food allergies and special dietary requirements seriously.

If your child has a food allergy, intolerance or requires an alternative menu, please see the information below.

  • School Allergy Policy – information about how we manage food allergies and keep children safe in school.

Please ensure the school is aware of any allergies or changes to your child’s dietary requirements. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Packed Lunches

Children are welcome to bring a packed lunch from home. We encourage families to provide a healthy, balanced lunch to help children stay focused and energised throughout the school day.

A healthy packed lunch could include:

  • Sandwiches or wraps with fillings such as cheese, egg, chicken or tuna.
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables, such as apple slices, berries, banana, cucumber or carrot sticks.
  • Yoghurt or cheese for a calcium-rich snack.
  • Breadsticks, crackers or oatcakes as an alternative to crisps.
  • Water to keep children hydrated throughout the day.

Please do not include chocolate bars, sweets, crisps, biscuits, cakes or sugary drinks. We encourage families to choose nutritious options that support healthy eating habits.

Break-time snacks

Children should bring a healthy snack from home for break time. Suitable options include fresh fruit, vegetable sticks or other nutritious snacks. Please do not send chocolate, sweets, crisps or other unhealthy treats.

Food safety: Grapes and cherry tomatoes must be cut lengthways into quarters to reduce the risk of choking. Please ensure other foods are prepared appropriately for your child’s age and ability to chew safely.

Nut-aware school: Roundwood Primary School is a nut-aware school. Please do not include nuts or products containing nuts in packed lunches or break-time snacks.

Thank you for supporting our approach to healthy eating and helping us keep all our children safe.
